Internationalization of the Graduate Program in Biochemistry at UFC: Portuguese Researchers Deliver Lectures on Global Health and Host–Parasite Interactions
Published at: June 9, 2026 Category: Sem categoriaOn May 28, 2026, the Graduate Program in Biochemistry at the Federal University of Ceará (PPG Biochemistry-UFC) welcomed two distinguished Portuguese researchers, Dr. Rita Velez from the University of Lisbon and Dr. Gabriela Santos-Gomes from NOVA University Lisbon, as part of the program’s ongoing internationalization efforts.
Dr. Rita Velez delivered the lecture “From the Bench to the World in the One Health Context”, highlighting the importance of integrating basic research, innovation, and global health. Her presentation emphasized how the One Health framework connects human, animal, and environmental health, underscoring the role of science in addressing contemporary societal challenges.
Dr. Gabriela Santos-Gomes presented the lecture “Host–Parasite Dynamics: Evolution and Impact”, discussing the biological mechanisms underlying host–parasite interactions and their evolutionary, ecological, and biomedical implications. The lecture provided a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the field and future perspectives for research on parasitic diseases.
The event brought together faculty members, researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students, fostering scientific exchange and strengthening academic collaboration between Brazilian and Portuguese institutions. This initiative reinforces the commitment of PPG Biochemistry-UFC to academic excellence, internationalization, and the training of highly qualified professionals and researchers.
