Annual Award
The Coordination of the Graduate Program in Biochemistry at the Federal University of Ceará (PPG Biochemistry – UFC) announces the call for the selection of the best dissertation and thesis defended each year, chosen among the three research lines of the program.
1 – APPLICATION PROCESS
The dissertation or thesis advisor is responsible for the application, which must be submitted exclusively via email (bioqufc@ufc.br) following the established schedule.
Required documents for application (all in PDF format):
- Justification for nominating the dissertation or thesis for the award;
- Full copy of the final version of the dissertation or thesis;
- Updated Lattes Curriculum;
- Copies of articles, patents, book chapters, or other relevant documents published with the results obtained from the dissertation or thesis;
- A signed declaration from the author, agreeing to the nomination of their dissertation or thesis for the award.
By applying, the candidate automatically authorizes the nomination of the doctoral thesis for the CAPES Thesis Award.
2 – AWARD COMMITTEE
- The award committee will be composed of two professors from PPG-Biochemistry and one external professor/researcher from outside the program. The committee will be appointed by the PPG-Biochemistry faculty board.
- Advisors and co-advisors of competing dissertations and theses are not allowed to participate in the award committee. In such cases, other professors will be appointed by the PPG-Biochemistry faculty board.
3 – ELIGIBILITY AND EVALUATION CRITERIA
To be considered for the award, dissertations and theses must necessarily meet the following eligibility criteria:
I – Must have been defended in the year prior to or in the current year of the award announcement;
II – Must have been defended in Brazil, even in cases of co-supervision or other forms of dual-degree programs;
III – Must be available in the UFC Institutional Repository.
Evaluation criteria:
I – Originality of the work;
II – Relevance to Brazil’s scientific, technological, cultural, and social development;
III – Quality and quantity of publications resulting from the dissertation or thesis;
IV – Methodology used;
V – Quality of writing.
4 – RESULTS
- Only one dissertation or thesis among the submitted applications will be selected as the winner.
- The judging committee may decide not to grant the award if no dissertation or thesis meets the qualification standard required for the prize.
- At the end of the evaluation process, the judging committee will issue a final report, which must include:
a) The total number of dissertations and theses submitted;
b) The names of all members of the judging committee;
c) The selected dissertation and thesis, along with justifications for their selection.
5 – AWARD
The “Best Dissertation and Thesis of PPG-Biochemistry” award consists of:
- A certificate granted to the advisor, co-advisor (if applicable), and the student;
- A cash prize of R$ 1,000.00 for master’s students and R$ 1,500.00 for doctoral students.

7 – FINAL PROVISIONS
- Failure to comply with any instruction in this document will result in the disqualification of the dissertation or thesis.
- Any omitted cases shall be referred to the PPG-Biochemistry faculty board.
