Annual Award for the Best Dissertation and Thesis
The Coordination of the Graduate Program in Biochemistry at the Federal University of Ceará (PPG Bioquímica – UFC) is pleased to announce the call for submissions for the Annual Award for the Best Dissertation and Thesis. This award recognizes outstanding work defended each year in the three research lines of the program.
Application Process
The advisor of the dissertation or thesis is responsible for submitting the application, which must be sent exclusively via email to pg@bioquimica.ufc.br following the established timeline.
Required Documents for Submission (all in PDF format):
- Justification for the nomination of the dissertation or thesis for the award.
- Complete copy of the final version of the dissertation or thesis.
- Updated Lattes Curriculum Vitae.
- Copies of relevant publications (articles, patents, book chapters) resulting from the dissertation or thesis.
- A signed statement from the author agreeing to the nomination of their dissertation or thesis for the award.
Submitting an application implies automatic authorization for the nomination of the doctoral thesis for the CAPES thesis award.
Award Committee
- The award committee will consist of two professors from PPG-Bioquímica and one external professor/researcher. The committee will be appointed by the PPG-Bioquímica faculty.
- Advisors or co-advisors of the competing dissertations or theses are prohibited from participating in the award committee. In such cases, alternative professors will be appointed by the PPG-Bioquímica faculty.
Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria
Dissertations and theses must meet the following eligibility criteria to qualify for the award:
- Must have been defended in the previous year or the current year of the award announcement.
- Must have been defended in Brazil, including cases of cotutela or dual diploma arrangements.
- Must be available in the UFC Institutional Repository.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Originality of the work.
- Relevance to the scientific, technological, cultural, and social development of Brazil.
- Quality and quantity of publications resulting from the dissertation or thesis.
- Methodology employed.
- Quality of writing.
Results
- Only one dissertation or thesis from the submissions will be awarded.
- The judging committee may decide not to award the prize if no submission meets the qualifying standards.
- At the end of the judging process, the committee will issue a final report containing: a) Total number of submitted dissertations and theses. b) Names of all judging committee members. c) The winning dissertation and thesis, along with justifications for the selections.
Award Details
The Annual Award for the Best Dissertation and Thesis in PPG-Bioquímica includes:
- A certificate of recognition awarded to the advisor, co-advisor (if applicable), and the student.
- A monetary award of R$ 1,000 for master’s students and R$ 1,500 for doctoral students.

Final Provisions
- There is no appeal against the decisions made by the judging committee at any stage of the award process.
- Failure to comply with any instructions in this document will result in disqualification of the dissertation or thesis.
- Any omissions should be directed to the PPG-Bioquímica faculty.
